I’m taking this time to drop everybody a note and bring you all up to date on some new and exciting changes and additions to our programs coming to GMCWS. We’ve all been working on our membership drive so I’ve been calling and chatting with our membership, I thank you all for your support and suggestions. For our spring rally we want to have all registrations and payments to take place on line, we will still produce a paper registration on our web-site for your convenience and information there will be more info when we post the registration, but for now keep April 7 thru April 11th on your calendar for the Spring Rally. I’m going to post some ideas for you while you’re in Palm Springs that thru the year’s we have enjoyed sort of like a travel log from an old tour guide, so here we go.

Shields Date Garden, the farm has been in operation since 1924, I found the sex life of a date fascinating, I also love the groves, gardens, and the ducks by the lake very scenic, if you’ve never had a date shake now is the time. Dates are very healthy and full of potassium.

Faye Sarkowsky Sculpture Garden is a place of artsy peace-the unexpected oasis off hyw 111 is accented with water features and beautiful walkways. If you haven’t figured it out Palm Springs is located on several natural springs many considered spiritual by the Indian tribes who inhabited the area and still own the land along with the gambling casinos that dot the area if you’d like to try your luck. An Indian family went to dinner in town at one of the many fine restaurants and the hostess asked him if he had a reservation and he replied I’m standing on it. Moving along I’m not sure if I’m being polically correct.

Moorten Botanical Garden, the garden dates back to 1939.

Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, you will see breathtaking views of the San Jacinto Mountains and pristine wilderness.

The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, this may be your chance of seeing a Bighorn Sheep as well as Wallabies, Kookaburras which I’m pretty sure you didn’t see on the drive to Emerald Dessert.

Rainmaker, located in Francis Stevens Park, it is a 30foot tall stainless steel Rainmaker Schulpture. The fountain was born out of a degree from then mayor Sonny Bono

City of Coachella Walking Tour, visit historic downtown with murals by local artist’s, walk over to the Coachella History Museum in a 1909 schoolhouse.

I’m getting thirsty how about an iced pistachio Rose Latte at Ernest coffee located in the historic Palm Springs tiki haven. Don the Beachcomber uses house made pistachio orgeat syrup. Very yummie

Well as you can tell I’d rather write than make calls for membership dues so how about it send money for your dues and join us on some great adventures if you can’t make it to Palm Springs maybe you can join us in Pismo Beach for our fall rally, I can think of all kinds of fun things there to do.

Bobbie Schultz, your witty President
