2001 Fall Roundup in Mariposa

Mark September 17th through the 22nd on your calendar for the Fall Roundup. Plans are already underway for a very unique experience in California's "Gold Country ". The Mariposa County Fairgrounds will provide us with a great central location as Yosemite National Park is just an hour away. The Fairgrounds has water, electric, dump stations, assembly halls, kitchens, showers and restrooms. Beautiful grounds include lawn, shade trees and flowers.

Included in this newsletter you will find an applica-tion for the registration; it always helps the roundupmaster by sending it early. You will also find a highlight of activities and a map to access the area.

Fall is a beautiful time of the year to explore the Western Sierra which is so rich in gold history and spectacular scenery. The quaint towns of the Golden Chain Highway (Highway 49) with names like Sutter Creek, Placerville, Angels Camp, Sonora, Chinese Camp and Hornitos, home of the notorious highwayman Joaquin Murrieta who earned the title of "the bloodiest outlaw of American history", await your pleasure. Just an hour down the road you'll find Yosemite which is the most visited National Park. Throughout the area trout streams and bass lakes abound with fish just waiting to be caught as the snows of the Sierra Nevada provide many wild and crazy rivers, picturesque lakes and calm reservoirs. The Sugar Pine Railroad will take you into another time when logging followed gold as the main industry of the area. And of course no train ride would be complete without a train robbery, so one is provided for you. Gold panning is available for those of you still hoping to strike it rich. And a sightseeing tour through Yosemite will put you right in the heart of this beautiful country known for such spectacular views as Half Dome, Mariposa Grove with its oldest living giant sequoia in the world, Glacier Point, El Capitan (largest single granite rock on earth), Sentinel Rock, Cathedral Rocks, Bridalveil Fall, Yosemite Falls (highest waterfall in North America) and Yosemite Valley. The summer rush will be over, and you'll be able to enjoy all this at a perfect time of the year. The temperatures average in the fifties at night and the seventies during the day, and rain is very unusual this time of year, but it could be much warmer so be prepared.

Many other recreational and cultural opportunities are available. Golf, horseback riding, hiking, swimming and shopping are nearby. Museums and history centers specialize in chronicling and recreating the history of the area, the geography, and the early inhabitants. The Mono and Miwok Indians have a fine collection of basketry and artifacts at their Sierra Mono Museum in North Fork.
Freddi and Frank Condos and Lillian and Marc Trubert live in this area rich in historical significance and old time friendliness and are working hard to provide a memorable Roundup full of Western flavor. And speaking of flavor, the meals promise to be very special with extra care given to the gourmet dinners and hearty breakfasts!

Vendors at the 2001 Fall Roundup in Mariposa

We are planning to have a significant amount of Vendor support at our Mariposa Roundup. We are in the process of contacting them now and should have several at our rally.

Jim Bounds of Orlando, GMC Co-op, will be there with two or three workers to repair and install items. He has agreed to do this in such a manner that members can observe the work. We are planning on an "in the round" format to show hands-on demos by having several coach positioned in the center with chairs for observers around the circle. Each coach slot would be manned by a technician doing work. Specific things would be scheduled so that members could watch, ask questions and discuss the work. The demos would be scheduled so as not to interfere with the other rally seminars. During the day, other repairs and installa-tions would be done in the different slots and members would be welcome to observe and learn. Jim has given us a listing of some of the things that he could do at the rally (look for the listing in the Tech Center). Members wishing to have services done on their coach should contact Jim Bounds as soon as possible to get pricing, reserve the time, and to make sure that he brings the needed parts. He may be reached at: coopmotorworks@bellsouth.net, 1-877-275-4462 or 1-407-857-5777. His website is www.gmccoop.com

Besides Jim Bounds, we are planning on having Darren Paget, Denny Allen, and other vendors: perhaps Jim Kanamoto with a final drive installation, or Leigh Harrison's disk brake conversion, or JR Slaten's oil cooler hoses.

In addition to front wheel bearings, this place also does engine tuneup, smog and dash air conditioning.
